The Technical SEO Audit

let's dig deeper into the Technical audit and discuss many issues that refer to the technical performance. take your attention that the tools for your technical audit are many, but I recommend focusing on the Google Search console and Googe Analytics, as you have the actual data and actual view to see your source. Some tools used:

SEO best practice Series

we can begin with ensuring the page is indexed in Google Index, as we Know the Crawl of Google scans the web to discover and index the page, Not that Google indexes webpages, not websites.

Be Sure your Page is indexed

by using the Google Search console besides using Northcutt you can identify how many pages have been indexed in the search engine.

Check your Robots.txt file to ensure and test Robots.txt on your pages to ensure that google crawl cab is guided easily through their scan.

Robots.txt is a file added to the webpage increasing the indexing process and guiding the google bot.

Check your website on the Search engine by typing (Site:myexample.com) in the search engine and check that your webpage has been indexed.

Be sure that you haven't duplicated pages

by using Deepcrawl you can investigate if you have duplicated pages or duplicated content, use the ”noindex, nofollow” to inform google that is duplicated content as you don't want to compete yourself.

Common duplicate content errors you’ll discover:

  • Duplicate meta titles and meta descriptions.

  • Similar content on a different domain.

Use the canonical tag on your pages to let Google know what you want your preferred URL to be.

Check your metadata

Your metadata represents very importantly in your process.

  • Title tag

  • description tag

  • alt-tag

I recommend using screaming frog to analyze your webpage and make a full analysis to revise all metadata on your page and check you don't have missing metadata or alt-tags.

This is a brief shortcut for the technical audit. but, if you want more digging in technical audit and know more about schema and the tags and crawling errors and using screaming frog in most of your audits I recommend reading the In-depth technical SEO audit
